前置詞+whoseの用法
これは、前置詞+which, who, whomと同じ使い方です。堅い話し言葉や書き言葉でおもに使われる用法となります。まずは例文を見てみましょう。

次に、前置詞+whoseの用法を見てみます。
私はトムを長い間知っていたが、その家で私は彼の妻に会った。

関係代名詞thatのその他の用法
以下のような場合は、thatが好まれる傾向があります。しかし、規則というわけではないので、whichやwhoなどを使っても構いません。
・先行詞が最上級の形容詞や、first, only, veryなどで修飾されている場合
これは私が今まで食べた中で一番おいしい食べ物だ。
This is the most delicious food (that) I have ever had.
This is the most delicious food (that) I have ever had.
彼はこの問題を解くことができる唯一の人だ。
He is the only person that / who can solve this problem.
・先行詞がall, anything, everything, much, littleなどの場合
私が他にできることはありますか?
Is there anything else (that) I can do?

そのお店では、赤ちゃんの興味をそそるものがほとんどなかった。
There was little that interested babies in the store.
・先行詞が人の地位・職業・性格などで補語になる場合
この場合は制限用法として使われ、thatは補語として働きます。
彼は以前のようなピアニストではない。
He is not a pianist (that) he used to be.

・who, whichなどの疑問詞が直前にある場合
演劇の分かる人で誰が彼の演技がよかったと言えるだろう?

関係代名詞の主格の省略
目的格の場合、関係代名詞は省略されていることはよく知られています。

・関係詞節にthere isがある場合

・関係代名詞の直後にI thinkなどの挿入節がある場合
