  Section11,12 SomeやEitherなどの用法（名詞／形容詞として使う場合のニュアンスの違い）

  この２セクションに出てくる様々な名詞・形容詞（Some, Many, Both, Either等）ですが、いざ使ってみると形容詞と名詞どちらかの使い方がいいのかで迷う時があります。

  Some of themのように代名詞が使われる場合などは明らかですが、以下のような場合が分からないので教えてください。

  例: 何人かの生徒が風邪で休んでいる。

  Some students are absent due to colds.

  Some of the students are absent due to colds.

  例: 多くの日本人は普段着物を着ない

  Many Japanese people don’t usually wear Kimonos

  Many of the Japanese people don’t usually wear Kimonos

  例: どちらかの作品が受賞するだろう。

  Either work will win

  Either of the works will win

  ↑

  どちらのパターンも、Some of my studentsやEither of these worksなど所有代名詞があるなら迷わないのですが、theになると使い分けに迷いました。

  どちらでもOKなのか、一方は違うニュアンスになるのか整理したいです。

  theを使うことで、名詞を特定するかどうかという違いが出ます。

  Some students are absent due to colds.

  Some of the students are absent due to colds.

  この例であれば、「不特定の何人かの生徒たち」か「特定された生徒のうちの何人か」かという意味の違いです。

  厳密に訳すと、前者は「〜という生徒もいる」という一般論を述べているような聞こえ方で、後者だと「それらの生徒たちの何人かは」と特定している感じです。
