英検１級および準１級の二次試験（面接試験）で解説したとおり、英検１級および準１級では、できるだけ簡潔で論理的な構成で自身の主張を話すことが大切です。ここでは、自身の主張を組み立てるときに役立つ英語表現を紹介しますので、面接試験対策の参考としてください。
面接表現のバリーエションを増やす
今回は、１級の試験形式を例題にして、面接試験で役に立つ表現（汎用性のある表現）をいくつか紹介します。便宜的に、以下の命題を選択したと仮定して解説を進めます。
Should capital punishment continue to be retained in modern society?
（現代社会において死刑は存続されるべきか？）
はじめに、大まかなスピーチの枠組みを考えましょう。構成としては、「結論」→「根拠」→「まとめ」の形式をとってください。ここでは、死刑制度は存続されるべきという立場で主張を展開すると仮定します。
まず、「結論」部分については、以下のような表現を用いることができます。

I am going to speak in favor of
I am going to speak against
My position on …… is.
いきなり結論を言ってしまっても構いませんが、死刑制度に関する現状に軽く言及した上で、自身の結論を主張するとわかりやすいでしょう。以下、回答の一例を示します。
There are a number of debates whether capital punishment should be retained or abolished. The current international trend is learning towards abolishment of death penalty; however, I would like to argue that capital punishment should continue to be retained in modern society.
上記５つの表現は、自身の主張を表明するときに役立つ表現です。このような表現を使い、明確に自身の立場を表すことが大切です。少なくともこれくらいのバリエーションは暗記しましょう。バリエーションが少ないと同じ表現の繰り返しで単調になりがちですので、気をつけてください。
さて、次に「根拠」の部分です。ここでは、２つの根拠を述べると仮定します。例えば、以下のような表現を用いましょう。
There are …… reasons to support my position.
I would like to present …… reasons to justify my argument.
Let me explain my position by providing …… reasons.
Firstly, Secondly, Finally, Lastly, Additionally, Moreover, Furthermore, Besides, Ultimately
構成としては、まずいくつの根拠があるのかを明示し、順番に説明する形式が良いでしょう。以下、回答案を示します。
There are two reasons to support my position. Firstly, we must bear in mind that capital punishment functions as a potential deterrent. If death penalty is completely abolished, we have to expect a high crime rate is going to increase. Secondly, capital punishment must be executed by the government in order to prevent the victim’s family or friends from taking direct revenge. Legally as well as morally, one is not allowed to take direct revenge for any damage incurred by others. Therefore, we can say that the government is responsible for conduction death penalty for the benefit of the victims and their family or friends.
最後に、「まとめ」の部分です。「まとめ」では、「結論」部分で最初にスピーチした自身の主張を言い換えます（ライティングテストのときと同じです）。「まとめ」部分で役に立つ表現は以下のとおりです。

「まとめ」では、できるだけ「結論」で使った表現と同様の表現にならないように意識してください。また、自分の主張をど忘れしてしまって、正反対の主張をしてしまわないよう、最後まで落ち着いてスピーチをしてください。以下、回答案を示します。

基本的には言い換えるだけですので、構成としてはイメージしやすいと思います。「結論」、「根拠」、「まとめ」それぞれの段階で役に立つ表現を紹介しましたので、最低限これくらいのバリエーションは頭に叩きこんで、自由に使えるようになるよう練習を重ねてください。
とっさのときに助けてくれる表現
スピーチ後のQ＆Ａでは、質問されたことに対して素直に自身の考えを話せば良いのですが、場合によっては自身の論理の矛盾を指摘されたり、思ってもいない観点から質問をされることもあるでしょう。特に１級になると、そのような状況は間違いなくやってくると思います。
例えば、自身が主張したことを言いかえたいときは、Let me put what I said in another way.と前置きするとスムーズです。また、さらに主張を付け加えたければ、Please allow me to elaborate on it.と断りをいれると良いでしょう。
また、自身が強調したいポイントについては、I would like to stress that～とか”I would like to emphasize that～といった表現が最適です。
また、仮に面接官から自身の主張と正反対の意見を示されたら、Certainly that’s true, but on the other hand, might it not also be true that～?などと言えば、相手の主張を否定せず、柔らかに自身の意見を伝えることができます。
最も多いのは、面接官の質問自体がよく理解できないことだと思います。できるだけ丁寧な表現で聞き返すのがスマートですから、I’m afraid I didn’t follow your point about～ですとか、I’m afraid I’m not quite clear what you mean by～、または直接的にLet me check that I understand correctly. Are you asking～?と尋ねるもの良いでしょう。
Q＆Ａでは想定外のことが聞かれるとの前提で準備をしてください。表現のバリエーションが少ないと非常に焦ってしまいますので、このような表現を少しずつマスターしていきましょう。
